What is the Association for Public Administration?

Within the "Vereniging voor Bestuurskunde" (Association for Public Administration), public administration science and practice converge. Through the association, you stay informed about current administrative knowledge and insights. The VB provides inspiration and networking opportunities for public administration students and young professionals. The association regularly invites researchers to share their knowledge in an accessible manner and engage in discussions about it.

The VB organizes conferences, lectures, and debate sessions that help you contextualize current developments within a broader framework, providing you with a platform for engaging encounters and networking opportunities.

The VB was founded in 1973 and has proven itself over the years as a bridge between the practice of, education about, and research into public administration. Trends are identified, new publications are discussed, and discussions take place through our social media channels.

Through creative partnerships with sister associations, government organizations, and publishers, the VB promotes the exchange between science and practice. The VB publishes the journal "Bestuurskunde" and maintains a network of correspondents in academic public administration who highlight cutting-edge research from both domestic and international perspectives. Additionally, the VB is a partner in 'Platform O,' the new digital platform for and about public administration.

The VB currently has more than 700 individual members and several dozen institutional members, along with a large network of individuals who attend specific activities and follow us on social media.

  • The VB organizes annually:
a Day of Think Tanks, where knowledge institutions and policymakers come into contact with each other
  • the Van Slingelandt Lecture in the meeting room of the Senate, where a luminary from the Dutch public administration presents their vision on a major and current governance issue.
